A recognized label in the United States and around the world, the USDA Organic label involves very strict production guidelines and is so thorough that few mattresses are able to qualify. An abbreviation of “United States Department of Agriculture,” the USDA provides education and training for farms and manufacturers and has an accreditation program for organic-label certifying bodies.
What does a USDA Organic Label on a Mattress Mean?
A USDA Organic-compliant mattress will have the following characteristics:
- Contains 95% organic materials
- Complies with the national list of allowed and prohibited substances
- Follows the USDA’s rigorous labeling requirements for organic products
Furthermore, USDA Organic-certified manufacturers will have passed on-site inspections and are required to keep records regarding their organic practices for at least 5 years from the time they begin the process.
