GREENGUARD Gold Certified Mattresses

In the United States, the average person spends 90% of their time indoors where the concentration of certain pollutants can be as much as 2 to 5 times greater than air pollution outdoors—according to the EPA. To improve air quality in American homes, the environmental arm of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) developed the GREENGUARD program to identify interior products and materials with low chemical emissions. The GREENGUARD Gold program is the strictest certification offered by UL and recognizes products that are safe for use by children and the elderly—as the population with the highest sensitivity to chemical emissions. Products that are approved for certification under this standard have been tested in specialized environmental chambers for extended periods of time and the effect of the emissions considered over the lifetime of the user. You can find a list of GREENGUARD-approved products on the UL SPOT Sustainable Product database.

GREENGUARD Gold mattresses are tested and re-certified every 90 days.

Benefits and Limitations of the GREENGUARD Gold Label

The benefit of the GREENGUARD Gold label is that it provides assurance that the final product is safe for use over extended periods of time. Its limitation is that it does not consider the sourcing and processing of the raw materials or require the materials to be organic.
